It has a small opening and hardshell design to protect glasses, but is larger than needed for glasses unless you are Sir Elton John. The top eyeglass+ accessory pocket is odd. The TPU pocket is weird IMO but it's not a problem other than adding weight. The main compartment is not as accessible as something with a clamshell design but can fit a lunchbox plus overnight clothes (maybe not shoes) just fine. The laptop is elevated and seems well protected. The laptop sleeve (15.6" Thinkpad, in this case) was much easier to access than on the Apogee and I like having a laptop, tablet, files, and some gear (pens, etc.) all under the same zipper. Not perfect, but versatile, and adequate for my needs. And there is a D-ring that could be used with a carabiner to support bottles with loops. Yet another ~22oz bottle was actually held in by leaning against the straps. Another taller bottle stayed in place with the compression strap over it. My 20oz Contigo has a grippy ring and stayed in just fine. They are pretty wide and could take a 32oz Nalgene, on the positive side. The water bottle pockets could certainly be deeper and less floppy when not in use. It didn't hug my shoulders perfectly but I would need to check out a dozen bags and try various loadings before getting a perfect match. The straps are relatively thin but felt fine for a brief trial. It fit my 5'8 frame just fine on one shoulder or both it (18.7") was definitely better than the longer 19.7" Apogee. Well, I checked out the Thule Enroute 26L tonight. I like a dark horse, so I would especially appreciate comments about the Gregory pack if you have an opinion. However, it has great water bottle pockets and stowable compression straps among other nice features. It is too long for my frame, the laptop compartment zips are fussy, and the shoulder straps pinch my neck. I don't know what size bag is too tall, but my current CaseLogic fits well at 18.25" and the Apogee (20") slices into the top of my buttocks when I wear it on one shoulder. I'm 5'8 and usually wear bags on one shoulder. I want quick access to the laptop and tablet. A good water bottle pocket is essential.Ĭarry a change of clothing occasionally (gym or overnight). Also considering Bellroy Transit Workpack and AER CPP (but is over budget) (among others).ĭaily work (professional/medical) to carry a lunch bag, 20-24oz water bottle, laptop, tablet, small number of files/notepad, and a small amount of supplies (a few pens, business cards, charging cables, band-aids, etc.).
